About the Role
Axcis Education is recruiting an experienced and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil within a warm and inclusive mainstream primary school in Hillingdon, Uxbridge.
This is a specialist SEMH and mental health-focused role supporting a child who has experienced trauma and requires a consistent, emotionally supportive adult to help them feel safe, regulated and able to access education.
The school is looking for someone with a strong background in SEMH, challenging behaviour and supporting children with emotional and mental health needs. This is not simply a classroom support role; the successful candidate will play an important part in helping the pupil develop trust, emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships with adults and peers.
The successful candidate will ideally be able to build a strong relationship with the child while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries and predictable routines. Experience supporting children affected by trauma or adverse experiences would be highly advantageous.

The Role
You will work closely with the Year 4 pupil on a 1:1 basis, providing consistent support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 4 pupil with SEMH and mental health needs.
Supporting a child who has experienced trauma, helping them feel safe, secure and understood within the school environment.
Building a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Supporting emotional regulation and helping the pupil develop strategies to manage difficult emotions.
Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using calm, consistent and appropriate strategies.
Identifying potential triggers and helping to reduce situations that may lead to dysregulation.
Supporting the pupil to engage with learning and remain in the classroom wherever appropriate.
Providing consistent routines, expectations and boundaries.
Supporting the pupil's social development, communication and relationships with peers.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide consistent support.
Contributing to the pupil's individual support plans and monitoring their progress.
Helping the pupil develop confidence, independence and positive coping strategies.
Essential Experience
The school is specifically looking for candidates with a strong SEMH and challenging behaviour background.
You must have:
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
Strong experience managing challenging behaviour, including de-escalation and emotional dysregulation.
Experience supporting children with emotional and/or mental health needs.
The ability to build trusting relationships with children who may initially struggle to engage with adults.
A calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach.
Confidence maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
The ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
An understanding of how trauma and adverse experiences can affect a child's behaviour, emotional regulation and ability to engage with education.
Experience working within a UK school setting.
Experience supporting children affected by trauma would be highly desirable.
Experience with ADHD, Autism, PECS and/or Makaton would also be beneficial, although the key requirement for this particular role is a strong SEMH, mental health and challenging behaviour background.

Requirements
Strong SEMH experience – essential.
Strong challenging behaviour experience – essential.
Previous experience supporting children with emotional and mental health needs.
Experience working within a UK primary school.
Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
Full-time availability, Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm.
Availability to start ASAP / before October half term.
