The school offers small class sizes to cater to the individual learning needs of students with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex learning difficulties. The school is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will support students with ASC and complex learning needs, including non-verbal students. The role involves working closely with students to facilitate their learning and to help them achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support and small group support to students with a range of SEND, focusing particularly on those with ASC and complex learning needs.
- Implement personalized learning plans under the guidance of the teacher, ensuring that the specific needs of each child are met.
- Assist in the development and use of appropriate resources to aid learning.
- Employ communication strategies such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to support non-verbal children or those with communication difficulties.
- Encourage and support pupils in all aspects of school life, including social, emotional, and academic growth within a caring school atmosphere.
- Participate in structured activities to promote the practical and community-based learning ethos of the school.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and stimulating educational environment.
- Liaise with the teaching staff and other support staff to ensure consistency in the approach to the student's education and welfare.
- Attend and contribute to relevant meetings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to the school's policies and protocols.
Requirements:
- Experience in an educational setting, particularly with SEN children, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of ASC and complex learning needs.
- Proficiency in or willingness to learn PECS and Makaton is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and the wider school community.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive can-do attitude.
- A commitment to the values and ethos of the school.
- Enhanced DBS check will be required.
