Axcis Education is excited to be working with a fantastic local secondary school in Stockport, which is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Mentor to join their team. The school is seeking the right individual to step into a fulfilling role as a Pastoral and De-escalation Mentor to support KS3 and KS4 students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education.
About the Role: As a Pastoral Mentor, you will be a core part of the school’s support system, serving as a key adult and day-to-day mentor for a form group of students. Your role will involve both academic and emotional support, helping students to reconnect with education and develop respectful interactions and positive mindsets. Key responsibilities include:
- Building strong, trusting relationships with students to foster their attendance and engagement in lessons
- Supporting students academically and helping them stay on track with their studies
- Assisting students in managing emotions and de-escalating potential conflicts, ensuring a calm, focused learning environment
- Encouraging respectful interactions, productive use of time, and an open-minded approach to challenges
Ideal Candidate: The school is looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in working with students who have faced educational challenges
- Skilled in pastoral support, with the ability to mentor and guide young people
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to making a difference in students' lives
- A strong communicator and natural relationship-builder who can positively influence behaviour and attitudes
