Are you a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant ready to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a young learner with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)? Our small special school in Barnet is looking for a committed individual to join our close-knit team, offering personalised support to a student with complex learning and care needs.
Role Overview:
-Direct 1:1 Support: Work closely with a student with PMLD, providing consistent, individualised assistance throughout their school day to encourage learning and social interaction.
-Personal and Health Care: Assist with essential personal care tasks, including feeding, toileting, and general hygiene, with sensitivity and respect for the child’s comfort and dignity. Work in partnership with health staff to follow specific medical care protocols when necessary.
-Specialist Communication and Sensory Support: Employ alternative communication tools like Makaton or PECS to support non-verbal interaction and engagement, and develop sensory-rich activities that cater to the student’s needs.
-Essential Skills and Experience:
SEND Expertise: Extensive experience working with students with SEND, particularly PMLD, within educational or specialist settings.
Personal Care Proficiency: Confident in providing personal care and familiarity with assistive equipment, such as feeding tubes, is advantageous.
Communication Skills: Proficient in communication support techniques, including Makaton, PECS, or other relevant systems.
Adaptability and Patience: Ability to adjust to the student’s individual needs, aligning activities to meet the objectives set in their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and remaining patient and responsive throughout.
