Job Title: Psychology Graduate
Position: Psychology Graduate - Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire
Salary: £93 per day PAYE
Type: Full-time
Job Summary:
A specialist school, located in the heart of Salisbury, Wiltshire, is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive teaching assistant with a passion for psychology to join their educational setting. This is an ideal opportunity for recent psychology graduates or those interested in the field, looking to embark on a career in education or psychology-related roles, with a particular focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with children and young people with SEND and SEMH, providing appropriate psychological support and interventions.
- Develop and implement individualised educational plans in collaboration with a team of professionals.
- Participate in the assessment of pupils’ progress and adjust approaches based on their needs.
- Assist in the creation of a stimulating and supportive learning environment.
- Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to support the young persons’ development and well-being.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions with pupils.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of group activities, workshops, and sessions aimed at improving students' emotional literacy and coping skills.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, supervision, and continuing professional development activities.
- Support other staff members in understanding psychological perspectives on behaviour and learning.
Requirements:
- A qualification in Psychology or a related field.
- A strong interest in working within an educational or psychology orientated environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage effectively with pupils from diverse backgrounds.
- A compassionate and patient approach to working with individuals with SEND and SEMH.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Enhanced DBS check or the ability to obtain one before starting employment.
- Prior experience working with children or young people is advantageous, but not essential.
