Job Title: SEMH Experience Teaching Assistant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet. The school is looking for an experienced and compassionate individual with a strong background in supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Role Overview: As a Teaching Assistant with SEMH experience, you will play a key role in supporting pupils who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your role will involve working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide both one-to-one and small group support, helping children develop their confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being. You will use positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation techniques, and tailored interventions to create a calm and supportive learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons, ensuring the needs of children with SEMH are met. Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils manage their emotions, build social skills, and access learning. Implement positive behaviour management strategies and interventions to promote personal growth and well-being. Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and external professionals to develop and follow individual care and support plans. Foster a safe and nurturing environment where all children feel valued and supported. Requirements: Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly with children with SEMH needs, is highly desirable. A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting young learners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers. A good understanding of SEMH-related challenges and strategies to support children effectively. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) and additional training in SEMH support are desirable.
