Teaching Assistant for Student with Epilepsy Position: Teaching Assistant Location: Croydon Contract Type: Full time Hours: 8.30 am- 16.00 pm Salary: £95 day rate About Us: Axcis is working with a specialist school dedicated to supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Located in south Croydon, we provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for children aged 4-11 years old, who may face a range of challenges, including autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties, social, emotional, and mental health needs, and medical conditions such as epilepsy. Our highly skilled and compassionate team is committed to delivering personalised education tailored to each student’s unique needs. Role Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Teaching Assistant to support a student with epilepsy. In this vital role, you will work closely with the classroom teacher to ensure that the student receives the assistance they need to manage their condition while fully participating in school activities. Your support will help create a positive learning environment where the student feels secure and empowered. In this position, your responsibilities will include: Health Monitoring: Monitor the student for any signs of seizure activity and be prepared to implement appropriate first aid measures as necessary. You will work closely with the school nurse and follow all medical protocols to ensure the student's safety. Academic Support: Assist the classroom teacher in delivering tailored educational programs that accommodate the student’s learning needs, allowing them to engage fully with their peers. Emotional Support: Provide emotional reassurance to the student, helping them to manage any anxiety or concerns related to their condition. Your role will involve fostering a positive self-image and encouraging resilience. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other staff members, including the school nurse, special education professionals, and the student’s family, to create a supportive network that prioritizes the student’s well-being and academic success. Documentation: Keep accurate records of any incidents related to the student’s epilepsy and report these to the relevant staff members as required. Requirements: • Experience working with children with medical conditions, particularly epilepsy, is preferred. • Understanding of epilepsy and associated learning needs. • Relevant qualifications in special education, childcare, or a related field are advantageous. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students.
