Job Title: Teaching Assistant - SEND Specialist Location: Bournemouth, Dorset Job Summary: A highly-regarded mainstream school in Bournemouth, Dorset, is currently seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will be tasked with providing invaluable 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who is part of the school's specialist resource provision. Additionally, this role involves working with small groups of children who have speech and language difficulties, as well as other areas of ASC. Key Responsibilities: - Provide 1:1 support to an ASC pupil, ensuring they are engaged, supported, and making progress within the mainstream school setting. - Work collaboratively with the specialist resource provision team to deliver tailored support to meet the individual needs of the pupil. - Implement strategies to facilitate communication and comprehension for pupils with speech and language difficulties. - Support the pupil with classroom activities, break times, and any transitions throughout the school day, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCO. - Monitor and record the pupil's progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required. - Assist in the preparation of learning materials and the adaptation of lessons to meet the specific needs of the pupil. - Participate in small group support sessions, helping children to develop social, emotional, and educational skills. - Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils. - Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training sessions as directed by the school's leadership. Essential Skills and Qualifications: - A compassionate and patient approach to working with children, especially those with SEND. - Previous experience in a similar role, or substantial experience working with children with ASC and speech and language difficulties. - Understanding of the challenges faced by pupils with ASC within a mainstream school environment. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals. - Relevant qualifications in SEND support or teaching assistant certification would be advantageous. - Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
