Job Title: Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant
1:1 Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant | From £89/day | Barking and Dagenham | September Start | Full Time | Long Term Axcis are working with a mainstream secondary school in Barking and Dagenham to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a 14-year-old boy in Key Stage 4 with challenging behaviour. The pupil displays high levels of anxiety and can present with verbal and occasionally physical outbursts when dysregulated. The school is committed to inclusive education and offers a supportive environment with access to pastoral and SEN teams. This is a full-time, long-term role to begin in September, ideal for a calm, consistent and resilient practitioner. In this role, you will: • Provide 1:1 support in lessons and during unstructured times, helping the student stay engaged and safe. • Use clear boundaries, de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour reinforcement to manage emotional dysregulation. • Build a trusting, professional relationship with the pupil, acting as a steady and supportive presence. • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral staff to deliver consistent strategies and behaviour support plans. • Help the student access learning by reducing triggers and promoting self-regulation and routine. What we’re looking for: • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour, ideally in a school or youth work setting. • A calm, confident and non-judgemental approach, with strong relationship-building skills. • Familiarity with behaviour support techniques such as Team Teach, Zones of Regulation or restorative practice is desirable. • Full-time availability and a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable learners.
