Job Title: BSL Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEND Department (Hearing Impairment Provision) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only Start Date: ASAP We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our SEND Department, supporting pupils with hearing impairment. This specialist provision supports children who are deaf or have hearing loss and use a range of communication methods, including British Sign Language (BSL), spoken language and assistive listening technology. We are looking for a committed professional who is passionate about inclusion and ensuring every child achieves their full potential. The Role The successful candidate will: Support pupils with hearing impairment across the curriculum. Use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication and access to learning. Deliver planned interventions and learning activities for individuals and small groups. Work closely with teachers, the SEND team, families and external professionals to support pupil progress. Monitor and record pupil achievement and contribute to assessment and review processes. Promote independence, confidence and positive social interaction. Lead learning activities and cover classes when required in line with HLTA responsibilities. Support the development of communication skills and language acquisition. We Are Looking For Someone Who: Holds HLTA status or has equivalent relevant experience. Holds a recognised BSL qualification (minimum Level 2 desirable; Level 3 or above preferred). Has experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a primary or specialist setting. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates a commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all pupils. Can build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues. Is flexible, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Desirable Qualifications and Experience Experience working with deaf children or young people. Knowledge of hearing impairment and its impact on learning and communication. Experience supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). We Offer: A welcoming and supportive team.
