Pay: £450/week
Start date: Flexible – Opportunities to begin this term or at the start of the next academic year
Are you a recent Psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a specialist educational setting? Do you want to work in a role that genuinely supports your next steps in Educational Psychology, Therapy, or SEND Teaching?
We’re offering a unique opportunity to work in a brand new, purpose-built SEND school in North Bristol, established specifically to support children and young people with complex needs and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) – all with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This is more than just a graduate role – it’s a chance to be part of a pioneering approach to special education, guided by an experienced leadership team that’s shaping the future of SEND provision.
About the School:
This newly established specialist school has been designed to provide the highest standard of education and care for learners with significant and complex needs. With a focus on creating a safe, structured, and enriching environment, the school supports children who require highly personalised learning approaches and integrated therapeutic support.
The leadership team is made up of experienced professionals who are passionate about improving SEND outcomes. Their commitment to staff development and inclusive education makes this the ideal place for psychology graduates to grow their skills and confidence.
Why Psychology Graduates Thrive in This Role:
With your understanding of human behaviour, communication, development, and mental health, you are uniquely placed to make a real difference in a SEND setting. You’ll apply your academic knowledge in a practical, supportive environment, helping students to overcome barriers, build trust, and make progress in ways that are meaningful to them.
Many psychology graduates go on to pursue careers in Educational or Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or SEN teaching. This role provides the essential, real-world experience these fields require – while giving you the opportunity to support children who benefit so much from your skills and empathy.
What You’ll Gain:
First-hand experience working with pupils with complex SEND and autism
Specialist training in Team Teach, communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, VOCA), and trauma-informed practice
Exposure to cutting-edge educational approaches guided by a leading SEND team
Mentoring and ongoing support from professionals across education and therapy disciplines
A clear pathway into further study, postgraduate training, or long-term SEND roles
What You’ll Be Doing
Providing tailored classroom and one-to-one support for learners with ASC and PMLD
Facilitating communication using alternative and augmentative systems
Supporting students in accessing a sensory-rich, therapeutic curriculum
Promoting social and emotional development using models such as PACE and THRIVE
Helping to implement structured behaviour support strategies in collaboration with staff
Engaging pupils in daily routines and structured activities that build independence and confidence
Who We’re Looking For:
A recent graduate in Psychology, Education, or a related field
Someone with at least 3 months’ experience working with children or adults with additional needs
A caring, patient, and proactive individual who is ready to get involved and learn
A strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
