About the Role As a SEND Support Worker, you will work closely with pupils who have complex and profound needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include using specialist PMLD support techniques such as: Delivering sensitive 1:1 and small group support through multi-sensory activities that engage sight, sound, touch, smell, and movement Assisting with personal care and daily living skills in a respectful, dignified, and responsive way Supporting communication using objects of reference, sensory cues, switches, eye-pointing, and body language Implementing individual learning plans, EHCPs, and therapy programmes with a focus on sensory integration and meaningful engagement Promoting emotional wellbeing through consistent routines, positive interactions, and responsive relationships Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to create calm, nurturing learning experiences Every small moment of connection and progress matters deeply in this role. About the Setting You will be based in a specialist South Gloucestershire school and college for pupils with severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning disabilities. The provision is known for its caring, aspirational ethos and its strong commitment to valuing every individual, motivating pupils to achieve their personal best, and providing a highly supportive learning environment tailored to complex needs. What We’re Looking For This role is well-suited for a range of dedicated individuals, including: Those with experience in adult or child care environments who want to move into education People with personal experience of supporting family members or loved ones with SEND Carers or support workers looking to build a long-term career in specialist SEN education Individuals who are patient, warm, empathetic, and resilient You will ideally bring: Some experience supporting individuals with SEND, particularly PMLD or SLD (paid, voluntary, or personal experience is welcomed) High levels of patience, empathy, warmth, and emotional resilience The ability to work flexibly as part of a dedicated team A calm, consistent, and positive approach A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children Full training and ongoing support will be provided — previous PMLD experience is desirable but not essential.
