SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary SEND School
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Monday to Friday, 08:30–15:30)
Pay: £90–£100 per day (dependent on experience)
We are working in partnership with a specialist primary SEND school in Bournemouth that is seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a fantastic long-term opportunity supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play a key role in providing 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils regulate their emotions, develop positive behaviours, and re-engage with learning in a structured and nurturing environment.
The school particularly welcomes applications from candidates with backgrounds in sports coaching, mentoring, youth work, or behaviour support, where structure, routine, and positive role modelling are central to success.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group SEMH support
Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement
Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Assist with classroom learning, interventions, and structured activities
Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils who may present challenging behaviour
Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENDCo, and pastoral teams
Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and less structured parts of the day
Candidate Requirements
Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, ASC, or behavioural needs
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Background in sport, coaching, mentoring, or youth work (desirable)
Willingness to undertake training and follow safeguarding procedures
Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
