Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Visual Impairment Support | Erdington, Birmingham (B23) | September Start
We are currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with visual impairment within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Erdington, Birmingham (B23).
This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated TA with experience supporting children with visual impairments (VI) who is passionate about providing personalised support and helping pupils achieve their full potential.
The Role:
• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil entering Year 6.
• Supporting a child with limited eyesight to access learning and participate fully in school life.
• Assisting with mobility and independence, including supporting a pupil who uses a cane.
• Providing reassurance and support during the school day, including awareness of medical needs such as seizures.
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to adapt learning and ensure the pupil is fully included.
• Helping the pupil build confidence, independence and social skills.
We're looking for someone who has:
• Previous experience supporting children or young people with visual impairments (VI).
• Confidence working on a 1:1 basis.
• Experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
• A patient, caring and proactive approach.
• The ability to build a positive relationship with the pupil while encouraging independence.
Role Details:
Location: Erdington, Birmingham (B23)
Start Date: September 2026
Duration: Full academic year
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
