Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education are working in partnership with a highly regarded primary school in Smethwick, Birmingham, to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with communication needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for a SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant (LSA) with experience in speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) who is looking to make a meaningful difference in a nurturing school environment.
The school has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating and is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and well-balanced curriculum, ensuring every child can thrive.

• Location: Smethwick, Birmingham (West Midlands)
• Start Date: September
• Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am – 4:00pm)
• Salary: £92.63 per day
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant supporting speech and language needs, you will:
• Support children aged 4–11 in a primary school setting
• Work with pupils with speech, language, and communication difficulties (SLCN)
• Help develop communication, social, and language skills
• Use tools such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Provide a calm, supportive classroom presence
• Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to deliver tailored interventions
Requirements
To be successful in this Teaching Assistant role, you should have:
• Previous experience supporting children with speech and language needs or SEND
• Knowledge of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or similar
• A patient, caring, and empathetic approach
• Strong ability to build meaningful relationships with students
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
• Availability for full-time, long-term work (Monday–Friday)
