Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – High Needs Autism & Complex Needs – Barking & Dagenham
£105–£120 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Barking & Dagenham
Axcis Education is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with high-needs Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties within a specialist or mainstream SEND provision in Barking & Dagenham.
This role is aimed at candidates who already have solid SEND experience and are confident supporting pupils who may be non-verbal, require sensory regulation, need structured routines or present with more complex learning and behavioural needs.
A CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification would be highly desirable, but strong practical experience within a special school, ARP, SEN room or complex-needs setting is just as important.
About the Role
Supporting pupils with high-needs Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties
Providing 1:1 and small-group support
Working with pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication
Using visual timetables, PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies
Supporting sensory regulation, transitions and emotional regulation
Following EHCP targets and individual support plans
Helping pupils access learning while promoting as much independence as possible
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and specialist support staff
Supporting personal care where required
About You
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who:
Have previous experience working with high-needs SEND
Have supported pupils with Autism, complex needs or non-verbal communication
Hold a CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification – desirable
Have experience within a special school, ARP, SEN room or specialist provision
Are confident supporting pupils who may become dysregulated
Can remain calm, patient and consistent
Are comfortable with personal care where required
Can commit to a full-time, long-term role
The School & Location
The role is based in Barking & Dagenham, with good transport links from Barking, Dagenham, Ilford, Romford and Newham. This would suit someone who genuinely enjoys working with pupils who need a higher level of individualised support and understands that progress can come through communication, regulation, independence and engagement as well as academic achievement.
